The Retrospective That Almost Never Was
A creator diary on finally finishing a long-delayed Golden Sun retrospective, from lost saves and old drafts to a hard deadline for publishing the video.
When I started creating content on YouTube, I always knew that I wanted to make a video on the most influential game of my upbringing: Golden Sun for the Gameboy Advance.
Unfortunately, because I hold this game in such high regard, I have continuously found ways to sabotage myself and put the project off time and time again. I thought I might try to do a VERY well scripted Let's Play series back in 2012, but at the time I didn't have a great method of capturing gameplay from the physical game, so I emulated. Which, of course, meant the issue of corrupted save files. I lost all my progress (roughly the first third of the game), and just kinda let the project fall off from there.
Flash forward a decade to 2022, when I decided to give the whole "content creation" thing a go again, I had planned to have the Golden Sun Retrospective done and published as like, my fourth video overall.
God was I naive.
I have drafts of this project from back in 2023, 2024, 2025, and now a version from 2026. There's just something about this project that makes me want to keep innovating and perfecting the script to an almost unhealthy degree. It's gotten to the point where other creators I know and even my own wife have called me out. Which yeah okay... I could probably just keep working and working on it as more and more new info is MAYBE revealed over time, but if I keep waiting then eventually it will morph into something that I can never be truly happy with.
And that would be an even worse feeling.
So I'm using this post as a way to hold myself accountable. As of writing this, on April 15 2026 at 9am EST, I will have this video script finalized, filmed, edited, and published by my 34th birthday (June 13). Barring any issues, by the end of June at the latest. I want to get this done and I want it done right.
Once production ramps up, I'll put together a post about the scripting process and some behind the scenes stuff, so keep an eye out for that!
